Katherine Heigl [and JPX] Hates Knocked Up
Posted by JPX
From cinemablend, In Knocked Up Katherine Heigl plays a somewhat uptight, feet on the ground, straight laced girl. The kind of girl who would be absolutely unable to appreciate or even understand a movie like Knocked Up, which tackles the topic of pregnancy from a male perspective. Well if you thought Katherine was great in the part, apparently it wasn’t because she was acting. That’s who she really is.
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair Heigl revealed that she never really “got” Knocked Up and finds the whole thing kind of offensive. She says, “It paints the women as shrews, as humorless and uptight, and it paints the men as lovable, goofy, fun-loving guys. It exaggerated the characters, and I had a hard time with it, on some days. I’m playing such a bitch; why is she being such a killjoy? Why is this how you’re portraying women? Ninety-eight percent of the time it was an amazing experience, but it was hard for me to love the movie.” The mad irony here is that her reaction to the film paints her as exactly the type of humorless shrew she’s complaining about it portraying her as, thus sort of well, justifying how realistic the film is.
Meanwhile, it also paints men as irresponsible children who dodge responsibility and fear growing up. I don’t hear Seth Rogen whining. Apparently Katherine has never actually been in a long-term relationship, because that’s pretty much the way it is. The things she’s complaining about are exactly why the movie rings so true for just about everyone, unless of course you’re a deluded, humorless shrew. Well, there goes all the good vibes I used to have for Heigl. I’ve just mentally thrown her back in the bin as “that actress from that awful Grey’s Anatomy soap opera.”
